State College, Pa. – The Big Ten Conference office announced today honorees from each of the League’s 11 wrestling squads for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Penn State senior Adam Smith (Newport, Pa.) was the Nittany Lions’ representative among the 11 honorees.
Smith completed his fourth season as a starter for Penn State with a 25-14 record and a best ever fourth place finish at the Big Ten Championships. A team co-captain, Smith earned his third straight trip the NCAA Championships on the year, led the team with 65 dual meet points scored and tied for the team lead with a 14-6 dual meet record.
The student-athletes chosen for the sportsmanship awards are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
