RPW COMPLETES TV DEAL FOR EUROPE
LOS ANGELES “RealProWrestling will now be televised in Europe. After a trial run airing RPW’s Freestyle Showcase, and witnessing RealProWrestling’s impressive United States debut, Euro sport 2 will begin airing RealProWrestling May 6.
RealProWrestling will air in four languages (English, Polish, Turkish, Greek), in 13 million households in 35 countries. European countries in which RealProWrestling is scheduled to air include:
Albania, Armenia, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, French overseas departments and territories, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Macedonia, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia Republic, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
“The agreement with Euro sport is just another step towards the successful creation of the world’s first international wrestling league,” said RealProWrestling co-founder and CEO Toby Willis. “It is one of the main reasons why we did not lead with our folk style wrestling – a style found only in the United States. RealProWrestling’s Olympic wrestling based style, primarily a combination of free-style and Greco-Roman, rewards aggressive action and provides an avenue for wrestlers throughout the globe to showcase their talents.”
RPW officials have already met with various representatives of the Bundesliga in Germany, and future steps involve bringing RPW production and marketing to their existing real professional wrestling in Europe. While this current step is showing the best the U.S. has to offer, future shows will showcase the best wrestlers in Europe.
RPW has also met with FILA, the international wrestling governing body, and is working to coordinate the growth of real professional wrestling worldwide.
“The International Olympic Committee has called upon the wrestling community to grow, promote, and market our sport as it deserves,” Willis said. “RPW agrees with the IOC, and is making a serious attempt to answer their call for action.”
Founded in 2002, RealProWrestling is based in Nashville, Tenn. and is the creation of two former Northwestern University wrestling teammates, Willis and Matt Case.
“Finally, the world’s best wrestlers can earn a living at what they do best,” Willis said. “Wrestling fans deserve to see their heroes compete against the best in the world.”
Fan favorite and 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Rulon Gardner is a commentator on RPW telecasts with the likes of RealProWrestling spokesperson Dan Gable (wrestling legend and Olympic Gold Medalist), and the coaching staff of Bobby Douglas (wrestling legend and Olympic coach), and Steve Abas (2004 Olympic silver medalist).
RPW matches take place atop a specially-designed elevated circular wrestling mat in a 360-degree Roman Colosseum-inspired arena. A total of eight cameras captured the action on the mat to present the live audience and television fans alike the greatest viewing experience. Live heart-pounding music increases the already intense atmosphere surrounding the event.
