LINCOLN – Ryan Davis, one of the nation’s top wrestling recruits two years ago after a standout prep career at Blair (N.J.) Academy, is transferring from Oklahoma State to Nebraska.
Davis, stuck behind NCAA champ Zack Esposito last season as a freshman 149-pounder at OSU, signed with the Huskers on Thursday afternoon. Davis has three years of college eligibility left. He will fill a void for NU at 149 after senior All-American Travis Shufelt completed his eligibility.
Davis was a first-team All-American in high school and a three-time national prep champion. Davis also had considered Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa and Old Dominion.
“We are very excited to bring Ryan in here, “NU coach Mark Manning said. “He has a lot of talent. He wants to be a three-time All-American and a national champion.”
Manning said the Huskers also signed heavyweight Stefan Tighe of Erie, Pa. Tighe, who is 6-foot-2 and 275 pounds, placed second in the Pennsylvania state meet.
