Lehigh coach Greg Strobel confirmed that 197 pounder Jon Trenge will be out of the lineup indefinitely and will seek anger management consulting.
The lastest chapter in a recent rocky series of events for the Lehigh All-American and national title contender stems from an incident Sunday in the third-place match between Lehigh and Minnesota at the National Duals in Cleveland. Trenge was disqualified after hitting Minnesota’s Matt Koz in the first period of their match. The disqualification and Lehigh’s forfeit at heavyweight led to Minnesota winning the match 24-13. Both teams were deducted one team point (Minnesota was deducted one team point for swearing), and Lehigh forfeited the heavyweight match, giving Minnesota the win and third-place finish.
It was an unfortunate series of events for Trenge and the Mountain Hawks. Recently, Trenge was disqualified from a match against Penn State’s Joel Edwards for throwing Edwards out of bounds during a scrum near the edge of the mat.
