Police Investigate Roundhouse Fight
Police are currently investigating a large fight that broke out Jan. 15 at the Roundhouse during the Coolidge Invitational wrestling tournament.
Preliminary reports indicate that a “heated wrestling match “between wrestlers from Show Low and Santa Cruz boiled over when the Santa Cruz wrestler allegedly head-butted his opponent during a match. Eyewitness accounts say that spectators came out of the stands to confront coaches and referees, touching off a large fight. By the time Coolidge police arrived, the teams had separated and the fighting had stopped.
According to police reports, injured victims included a referee, a Show Low parent who was struck repeatedly, and a Show Low wrestler who had a tooth knocked out. The Show Low team voluntarily withdrew from the tournament and a Santa Cruz parent was escorted from the school property.
All parties have refused to press charges.
