10 Questions With … John DeCeault
Sophomore grappler desires to be a 007 and get the gir
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Each week throughout the 2004-2005 wrestling season, one wrestler will be chosen at random to answer 10 equally random questions developed by Purdue’s Sports Information office. This week’s random wrestler is sophomore 165-pounder John DeCeault, interviewed by student assistant Erin Myers.
1. The Super Bowl is coming up soon … who do you think is going to win, the Patriots or the Eagles?
(Eagles’ quarterback Donovan) McNabb grew up near the area where I’m from, but I think that the Patriots are going to win, 31-28 … a close game, but they’ll come away with the win.
2. We’ve been in class almost three weeks now … do you already have a favorite or least favorite class?
Well, I don’t really have a favorite or least favorite class … I like them all. See, I’m taking 12 credit hours, but I’m also taking a three-hour Internet class that meets one night a week. So I’m not really in class a whole lot, so to speak, but I have a lot of work. But I still like my schedule a lot, mostly because I have some time to myself.
3. Most athletes will give their teammates nicknames and such … have the guys given you a nickname?
Oh jeez … we all have so many, but they like to call me Laser because of my aim in dodgeball. And actually, they gave that nickname to me my redshirt freshman year, before the movie came out. They’ve also started calling me Alleycat, because until this school year, they’ve never known me as single. Now I am, and … you get the idea.
What about the other guys? Anything good worth sharing?
Aaron Ruff is now known as Snuggles … he just got that nickname this weekend. Nothing bad or anything, but he’s called Snuggles now.
4. I know you want to eventually work for the FBI, but have you decided what area in which you’re going to specialize?
Well, I’m not sure yet whether I want to go undercover or just be a regular agent, but I want to be one of the two.
So you could eventually be John DeCeault, 007?
Haha … yeah, something like that. James Bond always got the girl.
5. President George W. Bush was just recently inaugurated for his second term … how do you feel the country’s future looks right about now?
I didn’t vote in the election, actually, but if I had, I would’ve voted for Bush. He may have made some mistakes, but then again, we all do; no one is perfect. Not everyone is going to like whoever is in office, no matter who was or was not elected. I guess what bothers me the most is that after Sept. 11, everyone was joining together and saying we needed to retaliate. Well, we retaliated and now everyone is saying it was a bad idea. You can’t have it both ways.
6. You and your roommates have a dog … what kind of dog is she? Any fun stories?
She’s a black Labrador, and her name is Circe, which is a name from mythology. She can be a little bit hyper, but she’s a lot of fun to have around. However, she has the deadliest tail … when she wags her tail, it’s like a bull whip. And see, (roommate Jason) Cook is so short that her tail is the exact height as his crotch, and he gets hit a lot … I can’t count how many times she’s knocked him over.
7. If you could travel anywhere with anyone, where would you go, who would you take with you, and why?
I went to Hawai’i with my family when I was in fifth grade, and that was awesome … I had such a great time. I’d want to go back there and take my family with me again, but also take my roommates. I’d have my family for the day life and my buddies for the night life. It all works out.
8. What has been the proudest moment of your life so far?
Well, when I achieve something, I’ve accomplished a goal, but it’s not like it’s something where I go around and feel proud of myself. I’d have to say I’m just really proud of my little brother, Joe. For football this year, he was named All-Area, and in baseball last season, he led the varsity team in hitting … as a sophomore. So it’s not anything that I’ve done that I’m proud of, but more like I’m just really proud of all that my brother has accomplished.
9. What was the scariest moment of your life?
It was definitely when my dad had a heart attack. I think I was in sixth or seventh grade, and it was a really scary time.
10. And last, but not least, I know you’re a huge Chicago White Sox fan … with everything that has been going on in the program in the off-season, how do you think your Sox will fare against other teams in the league?
Oh, they’re totally going to win it all this year, World Series and everything. We had the best off-season pick-ups … it’s the White Sox’s year, definitely.
