Jeremy Larson, Bobby Pfennigs and Ty Watterson have been elected captains of Oregon State’s wrestling team for 2005-06, OSU head coach Joe Wells has announced.
Larson (Hermiston, Ore./Hermiston HS) will be a junior 174-pounder, Pfennigs (Great Falls, Mont./C.M. Russell HS) will be a junior 133-pounder and Watterson (Enumclaw, Wash./Enumclaw HS) will be a junior heavyweight for the Beavers.
OSU has also handed out its team awards for the 2004-05 season.
Senior Matt Ellis (Prosser, Wash./Prosser HS, Oklahoma State U.) earned the Outstanding Wrestler Award. The 165-pounder finished the season with a 15-6 record and one pin, placing second at the Pacific-10 Championships and winning a pair of matches at the NCAA Championships.
Larson earned the Chad Flack Memorial Award for Most Improved Wrestler. The 174-pounder had a 16-10 record, placed second at the Pacific-10 Championships and had a victory in the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Jake Gonzales (Enumclaw, Wash./Enumclaw HS) earned the Most Promising Newcomer Award while redshirting at 125 pounds. Senior 141-pounder Tim Norman (Newberg, Ore./Newberg HS) earned the Beaver Award for Leadership. Senior heavyweight Adam Daniel (Milwaukie, Ore./Rex Putnam HS) earned the Academic Excellence Award.
