Hancock Earns MAC Wrestling Honor

Central Michigan University wrestler Mitch Hancock was named the Mid-American Conference “Wrestler of the Week “today because of his performance at the National Duals last weekend.
Hancock led the 10th-ranked Chippewas to a school-best sixth place finish at the duals held in Cleveland, Ohio. The 174-pounder went 6-0 on the weekend with a pair of pins. He recorded a critical fall 39 seconds into his match in CMU’s one-point victory over No. 16 Arizona State. Then, with the Chippewas down 15-6 to No. 14 Northern Iowa, Hancock pinned No. 3 Eric Hauan in 1:19 to spark CMU’s comeback to 21-18 team victory.
Hancock also beat No. 7 E.K. Waldhaus of Oklahoma, 8-4, in the final dual of the tournament. He is now 23-3 on the season and ranked seventh in the nation.
The Maroon and Gold travel to No. 23 Northern Illinois this weekend for a battle with the Huskies on Friday, Jan. 28. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m. CST. CMU returns home to take on Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m.
