Philadelphia, Pa – Drexel University wrestling coach Jack Childs has been tabbed for induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Childs has compiled 348 victories during the 29 seasons he has guided the Drexel wrestling program.
He is currently third among active coaches in Division I victories while leading the Dragons to victories in more than 62 percent of Drexel’s dual meets. Before coaching at Drexel, Childs guided Stevens Tech to a six-year record of 89-17. His combined coaching record at Stevens Tech and Drexel is 437-223-8. This places Childs first among active coaches in victories amassed at all divisions of NCAA competition.
Childs has been named East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA) Coach of the Year four times and was named CAA’s co-Coach of the Year in 2002. In his Drexel coaching career, Childs’ wrestlers have earned 45 berths to the NCAA Tournament. Last season, he led the Dragons to 16 wins, second most in program history, a third-place finish in the CAA tournament and had eight wrestlers finish with 19 victories or more.
Childs is already a member of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame, Northeastern Region Pennsylvania Hall of Fame, the East Stroudsburg Athletic Hall of Fame, the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Athens (Pa.) Area High School Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will be held in Reading, Pa. on April 22, 2006.
