OSU Grapplers Win National Duals
Sooners Finish 4-2; Hazewinkel, Ware Stay Undefeated
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Chris Pendleton pinned fourth-ranked Pete Friedl Sunday in Oklahoma State’s 22-15 win over Illinois in the finals of the National Duals wrestling tournament.
OSU got wins from five of its top-ranked wrestlers, including Steve Mocco.
Mocco had three pins and a technical fall in the two days of competition.
Jake Rosholt got a decision to put OSU on top 16-15. Mocco’s pin of Mike Behnke in 1:18 put the Cowboys safely ahead.
Meanwhile, Sooner wrestlers Sam Hazewinkel and Teyon Ware remained unbeaten in the National Duals tournament.
Hazelwinkel beat No. 2 two Kyle Ott of Illinois and No. 13 Luke Smith of Central Michigan in the 125-pound weight class.
Ware, who is ranked No. 2 at 141 pounds, beat No. 4 Cory Cooperman of Lehigh, No. 6 Josh Churells of Michigan and No. 13 DeWitt Driscoll of Penn State.
As a team, Oklahoma lost to No. 2 Illinois and No. 5 Lehigh. The Sooners had wins over No. 4 Michigan, No. 12 Central Michigan and No. 21 Penn State.
