The University of Minnesota wrestling program has announced that Olympic
Champion Dan Gable will be the featured speaker at the 2005 Fall Coaches’
Clinic and Workshop. This popular program will take place Friday, Oct. 28,
at the Bierman Field Athletic Building on the campus of the University of
Minnesota. An official practice of the Golden Gopher wrestling team will
take place during the clinic.
Open to college, high school and club coaches, the clinic and workshop
features Golden Gopher coaches and former student-athletes. The clinic and
workshop will cover topics such as mental toughness training, sports
psychology, wrestling techniques, strength and conditioning, diet and
nutrition, and much more.
Highlighting the clinic is Gable, a two-time NCAA Champion at Iowa State. He
finished his collegiate wrestling career with a 118-1 career record.
Following his wrestling career, Gable became head coach at the University of
Iowa and led the Hawkeyes to 25 straight Big Ten titles and 17 NCAA
Championships
The clinic will also include workshops taught by Brent Barnes, head coach at
Lake Stevens High School. He has led the Vikings to four Washington state
championships. Joining Gable and Barnes will be former Golden Gopher
four-time All-American Jared Lawrence. Lawrence was the 2002 NCAA Champion.
