Clark Glass (Brandon, Fla.) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for the week of Ocotber 11-17.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.
Glass won a gold medal at 85-pound weight class in the Schoolboy division at the California World Challenge in Fresno, Calif., October 14-16. Glass defeated Shane Yacuta of the Porterville KLAWS in the championship finals.
This was the first championship of the 11-event ASICS Ultimate Challenge Series, which features highly-respected and national-caliber youth folkstyle wrestling events all across the United States.
Points are awarded to placewinners at each event, which culminates in the awarding of nine Dominator Belts, recognizing the top three point scorers in each of three age divisions. The series culminates with USA Wrestling’s Kids & Cadet Folkstyle National Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa, April 7-9.
In 2005, Glass won the Ultimate Dominator award as part of the USA Wrestling Ultimate Challenge Series. Glass scored the most points of any wrestler in the nation during the series, with 14,400 points. He was also one of the three athletes who competed in Div. II (11-12 year olds) who were honored with a Dominator Belt for placing in the top three in his age division.
During last year’s Ultimate Challenge Series, Glass competed in nine events, winning gold medals in six of the tournaments. He was also an All-American in the USA Wrestling Kids National Folkstyle Championships, placing second in his weight class.
Later in the season, Glass won gold medals in the 75-pound division in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at the USA Wrestling Kids National Freestyle and Greco-Roman Championships in Green Bay, Wis.
