LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University wrestling program enjoyed a large turnout for both days of a “Weekend with Dan Gable “this past Saturday and Sunday. Dan Gable, the legendary frontman for the Iowa Hawkeyes, held a coach’s clinic on Oct. 16 in Bucknell’s Langone Athletic Center before a crowd of 500 coaches and athletes. Gable also spoke at a Bucknell wrestling dinner on Saturday evening at the Lewisburg Hotel in front of 300 attendees.
The dinner also featured former Bison wrestler Bill Graham as one of the evening’s speakers. Graham, a 1962 graduate of Bucknell, donated 5.6 million dollars to the University, making it possible to re-instate Bison wrestling.
Founded in 1947, the Bucknell wrestling program was designated for club-varsity status following the 2001-02 season, but largely through Graham’s generous donation that also helped fund Bison women’s athletics programs, it was announced in May 2004 that wrestling would return as Bucknell’s 27th varsity sport in 2005-06.
