The National Wrestling Media Association (NWMA) is reaching out to all journalists and publicists in the sport of wrestling to become members of the organization.
The NWMA, founded in 1988, serves as the national professional organization for journalists involved in wrestling. The group has actively worked to expand and improve the coverage of wrestling in the national media. In addition, it serves as a voice for wrestling journalists within the wrestling community.
The organization has given annual awards to wrestling journalists in a number of professional disciplines, including print journalists, photographers, broadcasters, sports information director/publicists, publications and internet pages.
Currently the president of the NWMA is wrestling historian and author Jay Hammond. The vice president is Jason Bryant of the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The treasurer is photographer Dana Robinson. The secretary is Missouri state publication editor Bill Burton.
Membership in the NWMA is only $20. Members become eligible for the NWMA awards program, and are voting members in all NWMA meetings. The major annual meeting of the NWMA is held at the NCAA Div. I Wrestling Championships each year. Members also receive wrestling accreditation materials from various wrestling organizations. The NWMA often holds media socials at major competitions. The organization serves as a voice for wrestling media. An NWMA members serves on the Board of Directors of the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

The National Wrestling Media Association (NWMA) is the national professional organizations for journalists who cover the sport of amateur wrestling. This includes reporters, editors, publishers, webmasters, photographers, broadcasters, sports information directors and other media professionals who share an interest and involvement in the sport.
The NWMA represents the interests of journalists within the sport of wrestling. It shall be a resource for its members for networking and information sharing. In addition, the NWMA will strive to support the growth of wrestling and its position within the sports world and the general public by developing more quality coverage of the sport through all available media outlets. A focus on the history of the world’s oldest sport and accuracy in reporting on wrestling is the foundation of the organization’s mission.
