Cal Poly 133 Pounder Darrell Vasquez has been invited to replace Wisconsin’s Tom Clum in the NWCA all-star meet Nov. 21 in Stillwater, Okla.
Vasquez, a junior, placed 4th in the nation as a freshman and then had to sit out last season due to illness.
He has accepted the invitation and will face Minnesota’s Mack Reiter. Reiter is ranked #3, Vasquez #4 in The Wrestling Mall preseason poll. The two have never faced each other.
The last Cal Poly wrestler to compete in the all-star event was 150 pound All-American Jake Gaeir in 1994.
Clum is expected to miss about 6 weeks with a hand injury. He did not compete in the Wisconsin wrestle-offs last weekend.
