Pittsburgh, PA “The Dapper Dan Charities will sponsor The 32nd Annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic, the most prestigious high school all-star wrestling meet in the United States, on Sunday, March 26, 2006, in the University of Pittsburgh Fitzgerald Field House.
The USA Team will feature two of the most successful and dominating high school wrestlers in the country, Henry Cejudo, from Colorado, and David Craig, from Florida. The Pennsylvania Team will feature Garrett Scott, from Juniata Valley, who is seeking his fourth state championship. Cejedo is pegged to wrestle at 125 lbs., Craig and Scott at 171 lbs. and 140 lbs. respectively.
Cejedo’s older brother Angel, was voted the USA’s Outstanding Wrestler in Wrestling Classic in 2004.
The preliminary dual meet, showcasing the Western Pennsylvania All-Stars against another state team will begin at 2:00 P.M. The feature match, between the Pennsylvania state team and the USA All-Stars follows at 4:00 P.M. The Western Pennsylvania All-Stars has not lost to another state all-star team since 1993. The Pennsylvania All-Team will try to break its ten year drought.
“The Wrestling Classic, is dubbed ‘The Rose Bowl of Wrestling,’ because year-after-year it matches the best high school seniors in the country against Pennsylvania’s best, it is a first class event for the wrestlers, coaches, fans and media. Each year we draw 4,000 fans because it is a great product for a worthy cause”. said Co-Director Kraig Nellis.
Proceeds from the Wrestling Classic benefit a youth wrestling program for inner-city children through the Dapper Dan Youth Sports Leagues at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania. “This year we started our third youth wrestling program at the B&G Club in McKees Rocks. Just like the two previous clubs, this community has no youth wrestling program”, said Nellis.
