The new site, which should be bookmarked by all, is a marked improvement over its predecessor.
There is a prominent section for news about Real Pro Wrestling. Each week there will be a column called ‘History of Wrestling’ by Mike Chapman, wrestling’s top historian and the founder of the International Wrestling Institute and Museum, who also attended both the 2002 and 2004 tapings of Real Pro Wrestling. As previously announced, I am also writing a regular column called ‘No Holds Barred’ for them, which for now focuses on the relation of wrestling to the combat sports as a whole.
The site includes an awesome short video preview of the first season of Real Pro Wrestling’s television shows, shot at the Oct. 8-9, 2004, tapings in Los Angeles. If this is indicative of the production values in the televised series, this show will indeed be a major hit.
For the first time, the lineups of each of Real Pro Wrestling’s eight teams are listed, along with bios and photos of the coaches and wrestlers. The results of these taped matches, however, will still be embargoed until they have been publicly broadcast.
A detailed television schedule of Real Pro Wrestling’s first season of shows is posted. The first show is on Sunday, March 27, on PAX TV at 4 PM ET, with a repeat on Fox Sports Net on Wed., March 30, at 3 PM ET. The first season will now have eight episodes, concluding with a special featuring the finals on Sunday, May 15, on PAX TV.
The new site also features an extensive links section, a sign-up for a forthcoming e-newsletter, and an online merchandise store which is now being set up. There is also a forum.
Other features are being planned for this site, which is admittedly still a work in progress. But the new Real Pro Wrestling site has much more information and is much more accessible in terms of design than the old site.
Also, independently of the Real Pro Wrestling organization, but appearing now by no coincidence, is the new Yahoo discussion group, RealProWrestlingFans. This is free to join and can be seen at:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/RealProWrestlingFans/
A Yahoo address is not required to join this discussion group.
This group has been set up by Mark Palmer, the founder of the older and larger AmateurWrestlingFanAddicts Yahoo group, which is still at:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/AmateurWrestlingFanAddicts/
So with Real Pro Wrestling about to start its first season of televised shows, there are a lot of exciting changes occurring online. Stay tuned for more information.
