Tickets Now Available for 2005 World Team Trials in Ames

Tickets now available for USA Wrestling World Team Trials in Ames, Iowa, June 18-19

All-session tickets are now on sale for the USA Wrestling World Team Trials, which will be hosted at Hilton Coliseum on the campus of Iowa State Univ. in Ames, Iowa, June 18-19.

The best wrestlers in the nation in the three international styles of wrestling will be on display in this exciting and important event, featuring men’s freestyle, men’s Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle wrestling.

The Challenge Tournament, featuring all of the qualifiers for the tournament except the 2005 U.S. Nationals champions, will be held on Saturday, June 18.

The Final World Team Trials, featuring a best-of-three championship series between the 2005 U.S. Nationals champion and the Challenge Tournament winner in each weight class, will be held on Sunday, June 19.

Reserved all-session tickets, which are in the prime seating locations at Hilton Coliseum, cost $60 for adults and $35 for youth. The best seating locations and best value will be held for those purchasing all-session tickets.

Group tickets are also available for a reduced rate for groups of 20 or more. Adult all-session group tickets are $45 each and Youth all-session group tickets are $25 each.

Single Day tickets will be available at a later date, which will be announced.

The USA Wrestling World Team Trials determines who will represent the U.S. at the 2005 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Sept. 27-Oct. 2.

Many of the star wrestlers who competed in the 2004 Olympic Games, as well as the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, are expected to participate. This event will also showcase many young talents who are starting on their quest to make the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team.

There will be numerous athletes in the field who have a strong tie to the host state of Iowa, including athletes who competed at Iowa State, the Univ. of Iowa or at Northern Iowa, in addition to other wrestlers who grew up in the state of Iowa.

Two wrestlers who were on the 2004 U.S. Olympic team in freestyle wrestling competed in the state in college, Cael Sanderson from Iowa State and Joe Williams from the Univ. of Iowa.

“This is a huge honor for Iowa State University, the city of Ames and central Iowa, “Iowa State and two-time Olympic wrestling coach Bobby Douglas said. “With our wrestling legacy, and the recent triumphs by Cael Sanderson, have made ISU a hotbed of wrestling. I can’t really put into words how excited we are to host our nation’s best international wrestlers.”

Iowa State Univ. has hosted numerous major wrestling events in the past, including the 2004 Big 12 Wrestling Championships, as well as previous NCAA Div. I Wrestling Championships. This is a region where wrestling is popular, with a centralized location where numerous fans can attend within a reasonable driving distance.

“We are taking our most exciting event to the hotbed of wrestling once again,” said USA Wrestling Director of National Events Pete Isais. “We feel it will an exceptional Trials, with young and talented newcomers challenging our veteran stars.”
