Ben Rings To Be Featured on FSN’s

KENT, Ohio ” Kent State University junior wrestler Ben Rings (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) has made a triumph return to the mat this season after a year-and-a-half hiatus to serve in the United States Armed Forces. His story will now be told to a national audience as part of Fox Sports Net’s “NCAA On Campus” which premiers, Monday, Jan. 17.
Rings, a firefighter in the U.S. Army, was called to active duty and shipped out to Iraq to aid Operation Iraqi Freedom on the first day of the 2003 Mid-American Conference Championships. He has returned to the Golden Flashes this season as a team co-captain and the starter at 197 pounds.
The show will wrap up a busy weekend Rings. On Friday night (Jan. 14) he and the Golden Flashes (6-6, 1-0 MAC) will host No. 24 Northern Illinois University in a Mid-American Conference first-place showdown at 7 p.m. in the M.A.C. Center. Then on Sunday, Kent State will compete in three matches at the Wendy’s Duals at Ashland University.
“NCAA On Campus” is a monthly 30-minute program that provides fans with a behind the scenes look at the life of student-athletes throughout the country. Ben, head coach Jim Andrassy and fellow co-captain Drew Opfer (Sandusky, Ohio/St. Mary’s Central Catholic) participated in the filming of the program.
The show will air locally on FSN Ohio Monday, at 3 p.m. and will be rebroadcast throughout the month of January.
