Golden Flashes record victories in win
KENT, Ohio — The Kent State wrestling team evened its dual meet record at
4-4 with a 19-17 victory at Cleveland State University tonight (Jan. 5).
Six Golden Flashes picked up victories individually. Junior Jason Bake
(Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) won his seventh-straight match at 149
pounds, defeating Ryan Hurley 10-5. Redshirt freshman Kurt Gross (North
Royalton, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) needed overtime before defeating Marcus
Effner, 5-3.
At 174 pounds, sophomore Aaron Miller (Uniopolis, Ohio/Wapakoneta) won for
the eighth time in his last nine matches, with a 4-3 decision over Matt
Klinger. Junior Alex Camargo (Brook Park, Ohio/Berea) decisioned Ron
Howard 5-3 at 184 pounds to improve to 21-2 on the season and classmate Ben
Rings (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) picked up a 6-1 victory at 197 pounds
over Joe Phillips.
In a highly anticipated match, junior heavyweight Tomas Rodriguez (Orange,
Ohio/Orange) won a major decision over Joe Dennis, 10-0, to run his record
to 11-2 this season.
The Golden Flashes travel to Columbus on Saturday, Jan. 8, to compete in
the annual Buckeye Duals hosted by the Ohio State University. Kent State
will face off with host Ohio State, Bloomsburg University and Wyoming
University at the event.
