Davidson fires wrestling coach after cocaine arrest
Associated Press
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson fired wrestling coach T.J. Jaworsky, a three-time NCAA champion, Monday after his arrest this weekend on charges of cocaine possession and driving while impaired, the school announced.
Jaworsky, 34, of Davidson, had coached at Davidson for 3 1/2 years and had a career record of 5-42, said Rick Bender, the school’s sports information director. Jaworsky was an assistant coach at his alma mater North Carolina for four seasons before taking over the Wildcats’ program.
Jaworsky was named the outstanding wrestler of the 1995 NCAA championship, the year he won his third national title for the Tar Heels. He finished third at the 2000 U.S. Olympic trials.
He was arrested Sunday and released after posting bond of $5,800, according to Charlotte police records.
Assistant coach Bob Patnesky has taken over head coaching duties.
