Lincoln, Neb. – The second-ranked Iowa State wrestling team improved its record to 9-0 on the season, routing Findlay,42-4, and blanking Dana College, 46-0, at the Nebraska Duals Saturday in Lincoln. The Cyclones posted a shutout for the second consecutive season after a 45-0 blanking against North Carolina State last year. Trent Paulson and Jesse Sundell each earned two pins for Iowa State.

“I’m pleased with the way we wrestled today, “head coach Bobby Douglas said. “Our kids showed a lot of heart and determination and these duals will help our team get ready for the Midlands tournament and a homestand in January.”

ISU began the afternoon with Findlay, taking seven out of ten matches with bonus points against the overmatched Roughnecks. Ben Hanisch started with a technical fall and Sundell followed with his third pin of the year. After a Findlay forfeit at 141 pounds, Trent Paulson recorded the second pin of the meet and brother Travis followed with a technical fall. Grant Turner, Kurt Backes and Trevor Smith scored consecutive major decisions in their respective weight classes and heavyweight Scott Coleman decisioned his opponent, 12-5.

The third-ranked Vikings (NAIA) had beaten Findlay, 22-21, earlier in the day, but were unable to score against the Cyclones. Jason Knipp and David Bertolino rotated with Aron Scott and Turner to earn their first dual wins of the season. Knipp had placed third at the UNI Open and Bertolino perviously finished runner-up at the Harold Nichols open and third at the Kaufman-Brand Open. Sundell, Trent Paulson, Backes and Coleman earned pins and All-American Nate Gallick scored a technical fall at 141 pounds.

The Cyclones head east to the Midlands Championships Dec. 29-30 in Evanston, Ill. before a six-dual homestand in January that features Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma and Tennessee-Chattanooga.
