Shuttle Service Offered To Ease Wrestling Woes
DES MOINES- Drivers know to steer clear of Vets Auditorium when ever possible, but at tournament time it can’t be avoided for many. For those that run the dual guantlet of construction and scant parking, help is on the way.
Bleachers are already being put up for the state wrestling tournament that starts on Wednesday. Everyone knows that tournament time is traffic time, and construction makes the challenge more daunting. Sandy Whipple, from Des Moines, said, “Hectic. It’s always hectic. Going around construction vehicles.”
With that in mind, shuttle bus service is being offered from the parking lot at 11th Street and MLK Parkway to the tournament. Dustin Geodesy, Iowa Events Center, said, “It gets real crazy in town. Anything we can do to help out, we’re happy to do.”
This is the first time they’ve offered a shuttle service. The cost is a quarter each way. The shuttle also stops at parking ramps along 2nd Avenue and Third Street.
The shuttle service is only being offered during the wrestling tournament. Shuttles will also run people to court avenue and the East Village area during the tournament.
You can catch the wrestling championship rounds live Saturday on Channel 5, WOI-TV. That’s February 26th from 6 until 10 p.m. Another note, this will be the last time the state tournament will be held at Vets. Next year it’ll be moved to the Wells Fargo Arena.
