Sooners Set for Bedlam… Even Tho OU Hasn’t Beaten Cowboys Since ’96

Wrestling team set for Bedlam

OU hasn’t beaten the Cowboys in a dual since 1996.

No. 7 OU will get a second chance at Bedlam this weekend as it will travel to Stillwater on Sunday to battle No. 1 Oklahoma State.

Sunday’s dual is set to begin at 4 p.m. and will feature some of the nation’s top wrestling talent.

The Sooners (15-5, 1-3) lost to No. 6 Nebraska last week while the Cowboys (20-0, 4-0) are riding high following wins over Hofstra, Lehigh and Nebraska.

Oklahoma State defeated the Sooners earlier this season at Lloyd Noble Center. Head coach Jack Spates has had his troubles with the Cowboys in the past, as he is just 3-23-2 against Oklahoma State.

The Sooners will try and better Spates’ record Sunday and win a dual against Oklahoma State for the first time since 1996.

The task of beating the Cowboys in Stillwater will be tall because it will be senior night at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Chris Pendleton (174 pounds) will be one of the seniors honored Sunday. Four other Cowboy seniors will be honored. Ronnie Delk, Brett Munson, Clark Shouse and Mike Christian will all be honored during senior day festivities.

Pendleton, along with Zack Esposito (149 pounds) and Steve Mocco (heavyweight), will pose another problem for the Sooners.

All three wrestlers are ranked No. 1 in their weight class.

If the Cowboys are successful in defeating the Sooners, it will be the 32nd time in school history.

Following Sunday’s dual, the Sooners will have one more outing before they end the regular season. OU will travel to East Lansing, Mich., on Feb. 25 to face the Michigan State Spartans at the Jenison Field House.
