MADISON, Wis. – The No. 11 Wisconsin wrestling team will welcome Landon, from MTV’s The Real World – Philadelphia, to the Badger bench as an honorary coach during Wisconsin’s final home dual of the season vs. rival Minnesota. An avid wrestling fan and former grappling standout, Landon it also pleased to be joining the Badgers against Golden Gophers.
“I have always been a Badger fan,” said Landon. “I really like their style of wrestling. They are a team with class and win or lose, they are competitors that will finish with class. Minnesota is a school that has a tradition of great wrestling, so to be able to have them at home should make this match great.”
In high school, Landon was ranked fifth in the state in wrestling and was a state champion in doubles tennis. At Wisconsin, he was on the water skiing and wakeboarding teams. Having wrestled on the Badger’s home mats, Landon commented on the electric atmosphere of the UW Field House.
“I wrestled at the Field House a couple times in high school and I can definitely say that when the crowd is behind you, especially in such a close setting, it really drives you forward to hear them cheering.”
Landon also has ties to the team beyond his love of the sport.
“I grew up with (All-Americans and former Badgers) Kevin and Tony Black,” said Landon. “So I’ve always been involved with Wisconsin wrestling.” This year he can claim one more tie to the team as he hails from the same area as current 125-pound wrestler Collin Cudd.
The action in Wisconsin vs. Minnesota is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the UW Field House. Contact the UW Athletic Ticket Office for admission details. Those unable to attend can still listen in on all the action on uwbadgers.com’s live audio feed.
