Panthers halt Bison’s winning streak

Fargo, N.D. – The Northern Iowa wrestling team snapped North Dakota State’s 20-dual win streak with a 31-12 win Thursday night.
The Panthers (6-7) have won five straight against the Bison.
Northern Iowa took seven matches, pinning three Bison.
Freshman Adam Baumgartner started the meet off at 125 pounds with his first collegiate dual victory, a pin of Mike Meger in 2 minutes, 51 seconds. Ryan Osgood led the entire match at 133, defeating Nick Magee, 6-4.
Freshman C.J. Ettelson gave the Panthers a 15-0 lead after he pinned senior 141-pounder Lucas Christianson in 1:40. Senior Jeff Harrison continued the dominance, scoring in every period for an 8-1 win over Zach Stevens at 149.
Junior Mark Manchio wrestled for the first time competitively since Dec. 5, stepping up two weight classes to 157. He was pinned by Andy Pickar in 2:30.
Manchio was filling in for Nick Baima, who broke his hand in practice Wednesday. Baima is scheduled to return for the West Regional on March 5.
Junior Chris Bitetto tallied three takedowns and riding time in his 9-4 victory over Collin Kelly.
Eric Hauan had the Panthers’ other pin, at 174 pounds.
