Lincoln, Neb. – The Univ. of Nebraska fought hard on Friday night in front of a home crowd of 3,442 fans at the Nebraska Coliseum in a dual against two-time defending NCAA champion Oklahoma State.
However, after 10 matches were wrestled, the outcome of the dual still has not been decided.
Oklahoma State won the dual 19-18 according to the scorebook, but Nebraska coaches have appealed to the NCAA Rules Committee following an apparent scoring error at 184 lbs.
Nebraska’s Travis Pascoe officially defeated Clay Kehrer 11-4 in that 184-pound bout, but Pascoe was awarded two points in the dual for two illegal holds by Kehrer. The controversy is whether the second illegal hold should have resulted in two points being awarded to Pascoe.
Nebraska assistant coach Shawn Charles said the error was pointed out to referee Cody Olsen at the very conclusion of the dual, which ended after the 285-pound match. According to Charles, the official noted the error in scoring before he signed the score sheet.
The extra point would have given Nebraska 19 team points, good enough to tie Oklahoma State in the dual meet.
The NCAA Rules Committee is expected to making a final ruling on the winner of this dual meet on Saturday.
