WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Each week throughout the 2004-2005 wrestling season, one wrestler will be chosen at random to answer 10 equally random questions developed by Purdue’s Sports Information office. This week’s random wrestler is sophomore 197-pounder Nate Moore, interviewed by student assistant Erin Myers.
1. Valentine’s Day is this coming Monday … any special plans?
I don’t have any plans yet. I do have someone in mind, but I wouldn’t want to give anything away.
2. Fair enough … next question – what is your favorite season of the year?
I love the springtime. The weather starts to get warmer; you can ride your bike to class, roll the windows down in the car, and check out all of the hotties coming out of their winter coats.
3. Nice … what is your favorite kind of music you like to listen to when you work out?
I’ll work out to some rock and roll or rap most of the time, but sometimes I’ll get pumped up to (assistant coach Scott) Hinkel’s crazy stuff. He’ll play anything and everything from the Michael Myers’ “Halloween “theme to oldies music like the Temptations – but absolutely no country.
Ahh … not a big fan of country, I see. Any particular reason?
I don’t like country because of the twang and all of the talk about the trucks, booze, and dogs.
4. Understandable … so did you watch the Super Bowl?
I sure did.
Were you surprised by the outcome? And what was your favorite commercial?
I was rooting for the Patriots because I hate Terrell Owens’ antics and how cocky he is. I wasn’t surprised at all that the Patriots won, especially when they beat the Colts – the greatest team on earth. But in general, I thought the commercials stank.
Really? You didn’t even like Burt Reynolds and the dancing bear for FedEx?
The only good one was the one when the pilot of the plane ran out chasing some beer … I think it was Budweiser.
5. What is the nicest compliment you have ever received?
I’d have to say it was when my middle school coach told me that he hoped that his son would turn out to be just like me.
6. Recently a New York City hip-hop station came under fire for playing “USA for Indonesia “(a song mocking the tsunami tragedy) on the radio … did you know anyone affected by the tragedy and what do you think the punishment should be for the station?
I know a guy that was vacationing in Sri Lanka, but he didn’t get hurt. However, he ended up volunteering for a few weeks helping out with the victims. As for the radio station, they can’t really be punished for playing the song because it’s dealing with freedom of speech, but I think it definitely used poor judgment.
7. What have you thought about the recent Indiana “heat wave”? Have you been driving with your windows down or been wearing shorts?
I’ve definitely been driving around with my windows down a little, but my shorts are lost in storage in my room right now.
8. I know several of your teammates have tattoos, but you don’t appear to have any, or at least not any that the public can see … would you ever consider getting one?
I’ve thought about it, but I’m not sure I’m ready for something that permanent. I thought about getting a Purdue tattoo, but then I thought about if my dad had a Butler tattoo on him, and I kind of thought that it would be cheesy.
9. If you went on vacation somewhere in the continental United States, would you rather take a plane or would you be up for a road trip?
I would have to say I’d probably want to take a plane. When I was younger, every time my family went on vacation we would always drive. My dad loves camping, so we would drive for eight hours, pitch a tent then drive the next day for another eight hours. In elementary school, we took a three week trip out to California even though we spent two weeks driving.
10. Okay, and I have to ask it … have you seen “Napoleon Dynamite “- also known as the hottest movie at Purdue right now?
Oh yeah, its probably my favorite movie right now.
Well what is your favorite line from the movie?
That’s tough … there are so many good ones, but I would go with: Kid on Bus: What are you gonna do today, Napoleon? Napoleon Dynamite: Whatever I feel like I wanna do, gosh!
