Grapplers Fall To 5th Ranked Lehigh 27-10
Freshman Jeff Schell is now 18-4 on the year.
Bethlehem, PA – The Brown wrestling team took on fifth ranked Lehigh on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Mountain Hawks 27-10. Three Bears recorded victories, led by freshman Jeff Schell’s major decision over Andrew Rizzi at 125. Junior Mike Pedro picked up his fifth straight win with a 6-2 decision over Bryan Bernal at 174. Junior Doran Heist rounded out Brown’s winners with a 5-3 decision over Matt Cassidy.
The Mountain Hawks took the first five bouts, earning bonus points in four of the five. The match started at 133, where Lehigh’s Matt Ciasulli scored an escape and a takedown in the third period to top junior Dan Appello.
Cory Cooperman pinned freshman Ross Johnson at 141 to give Lehigh a 9-0 lead. Lehigh went on to get three straight major decision over the Bears, including one by Troy Letters, who is undefeated this season.
Pedro and Heist earned Brown the next two victories but the Mountain Hawks bounced back to take two more victories at 197 and heavyweight. Schell ended the match on a good note for the Bears with his 12-3 major decision. Schell is now 18-4 on the year.
Brown will open Ivy action next Friday at Princeton before traveling on to Penn on Saturday.
