This week’s athletes are a senior and a freshman. The senior is an inspirational young man who has overcome some physical odds to become the best in the state.
The freshman is an up and coming gynmast.
Justin Turek, the wrestler born with just half of his left arm, was the talk of the state wrestling tournament over the weekend.
The New Prague senior overcame all odds to win the state 140-pound title.
He says he believes that wrestling is more mental than physical. He says you have to be in great shape, but you have to be mentally very tough as well.
Turek finishes his final season with a 29-4 record and a state championship.
Eden Prairie’s Jennifer Easton burst onto the high school gymnastics scene this season.
Jennifer was sensational over the weekend leading the Eagles to their first state team gymnastics title since 1992.
Jennifer says winning a team title is so special because you have the opportunity to share it with all of those you have worked with all season.
Jennifer finished 3rd in the all-around competition on a tiebreaker. She’s one to watch in the future.
